Civil Construction Photographer

Whether it be a city or rural building site, quarry, maritime project, road and highway development, private or government infrastructure projects, Rob Cleary is available to document construction from a shovel ready launch to work-in-progress and final completion.

Eastern Breakwall, Coffs Harbour

Over 14 months, the reconstruction of the breakwall involved repurposing the original stone and cement, consolidating and rebuilding the foundations, installing over 2,500 new 16 to 28 tonne concrete ‘hanbars’ and paving a 500 metre concrete roadway. Working with project managers and crew, in and around heavy machinery and equipment Rob captured images of the work-in-progress from land, sea and air. On completion, he was commissioned to produce a limited edition photographic presentation book to visually commemorate the project for the principal contractor. Copies were presented to key government and corporate project partners.

Port of Brisbane, Brisbane, Queensland

With increasing levels of seaborne commerce, the Port of Brisbane required expansion of its landholding to accommodate additional shipping terminal infrastructure. Rob was commissioned by the lead project contractor to document the initial stages of this project.

Dredging, land reclamation, settlement ponds, road building and earthworks were all part of this stage of the project that Rob captured for his client to report work-in-progress.

Machans Beach Seawall, Cairns, Queensland

Homes along Machans Beach, just north of Cairns, are just a stone’s throw from the sea. Each year the distance between the sea shore and property was decreasing. The original seawall had been severely eroded and in need of refurbishment. Rob captured this project over 12 months, from land and air.

Here are some of Rob’s images profiling the transformation from a once decaying rock wall to a new and improved solid line of defence and recreation area – much to the delight of residents and the local government.
